Writer's Block: Just Say No!

What bad habit have you broken?

I've been nudged!

It's been a few months since I've posted. I've been really busy with work. I'm out recruiting for 7 months of the year and in the office after each recruitment visit.

This last week I bought a Kindle Fire and I was really excited about it. I just didn't want to spend that much money. But I did anyway. I already have a Kindle and I'm going to give that one to my niece. Normally, when I buy something that I really don't need (like the Kindle Fire) something bad happens to me. NOT bad bad but I'll have another expense happen. So what happened? The day after I bought the Kindle Fire, I had a flat tire. I had to pay for someone to change it for me, then I had to get the tire replaced. But as it turns out, I needed two new tires, alignment, and a new alternator belt!!!

Yes, it was a costly repair. I hate spending money.

I've found couponing helps me save money.

My sources of finding deals:

Jill Cataldo's website. She's a local Chicago-area Super Couponer. She posts the deals of the week usually on Sunday evening or Monday morning. These drug store sales CVS, Walgreans and store sales like Target are for the sales happening that week. For example sales usually start on Sunday and Saturday. The grocery store deals usually run Thursday to Wednesday, so by the time the Deals of the Week are posted, you only have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday to take advantage of those grocery store deals. In our area we have Jewel (Albertsons) and Dominick's (Safeway).

I also use Coupon Mom and you can sign up for free. She has a tool that you can use to find an item with the best price!!!

I used to use The Grocery Game but unfortunately, it was a little too expensive so I discontinued my membership.

Examples of my savings.

I bought %167 worth of groceries and paid only $81. I cut my grocery bill in half. It's not extreme couponing but it's better than paying full price.

Writer's Block: Your 15 Minutes

If you had your own reality show, what would it be called? What would it be about?

Super Couponing in Cougar Town Rehab...

That's what my co-worker called my real life reality show.

Still miss you...

There isn't a day that does not go by that I don't miss my dad. It could be a little thing ...like a scene from a movie, something that just happened to me or my son. Everything seems to remind me of my dad. I can still say that I do have mostly great memories of him. And better yet, my son has nothing but good memories of him.

I miss you papa! Te extraño mucho!!!

Writer's Block: Study break

What are you studying or did you study in school? Is it related to what you want to do for your career?

My Bachelor's Degree in English Literature with a Minor in Medieval History. So I know how to do a lot of research and writing. I'm a college adviser and my degree opened the door so that I could start my career in higher education.

Writer's Block: Back in the day

Is there anything you did when you were younger that makes you laugh or blush when you remember it?
If I tell you, I'd have to kill you. Besides, my son would be embarrassed....

Writer's Block: Working hard for the money

If your pet were a person, what occupation would they choose?

My cat would have been a spy or hired hitman.

Chicago Blizzard of 2011!!!

Lake Shore Drive which runs along Lake Michigan and by downtown was closed down because of an accident. People were trapped in their cars for up to 12 hours or so. Many just left their cars on the street and walked to safety. Others were rescued...

Thundersnow? Yes, there was a thunderstorm during the blizzard but instead of rain it was snow!!!

Another view of the blizzard in downtown Chicago.
